Residents invited to Have Say on Council decisions

Inner West Council is inviting residents to join a number of interim Reference Groups that will ensure the community has a direct say in decisions affecting the local area.

Administrator Richard Pearson said that Council was committed to improved community engagement.

“If we want to build effective policies and work programs it’s vital that we engage with our local community and gather a range of views that reflect the diversity of our community,” he said.

“A key part of that is setting up these new Reference Groups across important social, economic and environmental strategic areas.

“The Groups will give the community an important platform to be part of building a stronger local community where they want to live, work and do business.

“They will be able to provide feedback to Council on issues like strategic planning and policy.

“We also need their local knowledge about community impacts, emerging trends, opportunities and service gaps.”

Council is calling for expressions of interest for community members to sit on the following Reference Groups:

• Young Leaders Reference Group
• Social Inclusion Reference Group
• Economic Development Strategic Reference Group
• Housing and Affordability Reference Group
• Transport Strategic Reference Group
• Environment Strategic Reference Group
• Planning and Heritage Strategic Reference Group

Applicants will need to meet selection criteria based on skills, interest and experience relevant to the focus of the Reference Group. Members of relevant community organisations are also eligible to apply.
