Inner West Council Grants Program now open Inner west community groups are urged to apply for up to $50,000 in grant funding. Inner West Council has today opened its community grants program, which provides funding of up to $50,000 per project for proposals to improve and enhance local communities. The Stronger Communities Grants Program is part of the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Fund, with a dedicated $1 million to be spent on community grants in the Inner West Council area over the next three years. Local community groups can apply now for projects that may include club facility upgrades, funding of sporting equipment, or tools and equipment to improve the delivery of community services. A broad range of applications can be considered for grants under the program. Inner West Council has included a preference for projects that involve physical building and/or equipment, so the community will see tangible benefits. The Stronger Community grant program is being run in conjunction with the grant programs of the former councils of Ashfield (Arts, Community and Environment) and Leichhardt (Community, Events, Environment, Seniors and Local History). These grants provide for up $7,500 per project. (Note: The small grants program of the former Marrickville Council has already been finalised for 2016). Together, these grants will deliver recreation, arts and cultural, social, environmental and economic benefits to local inner west communities. “Community groups are the heart and soul of our communities and the services they provide make a real and lasting difference to the lives of residents,” said Inner West Council Administrator Richard Pearson. “These grants are a godsend for community groups, Not-For-Profits, sporting organisations, artists and environmental groups - anyone who needs funding to turn their great idea into a reality. “The usual council grants – the former councils of Ashfield, Leichhardt and Marrickville all had similar grants programs – could fairly be described as ‘seed funding’. “While small, these grants were a constant source of amazement at what could be achieved with such small amounts of money,” Mr Pearson said. “So I’m pleased we are continuing with those grants – and delighted that we can now add the Stronger Communities grants which represent really substantial amounts of money,” he said. The grants program opened for applications on Tuesday 19 July, and close 5pm Monday 29 August, with funds to be allocated later this year.
