GLC Sustainable Pop-Up Kitchen at Newtown Festival
The Green Living Centre's sustainable pop-up kitchen will be at the heart of Newtown Festival's eco-space on Sunday 13 November at Camperdown Memorial Rest Park.
The interactive kitchen space will feature natural, energy-efficient, low-carbon, recycled, re-used and toxic-free materials and equipment and there will be the chance to win sustainable prizes.
Festival attendees will learn how to adjust their kitchen activities and choices to:
- Reduce their energy and water use
- Minimise food waste
- Source fresh, locally grown produce
- Grow their own vegetables/herbs
- Shop by minimising packaging and plastics
- Clean with low-toxic cleaners
The pop-up kitchen will include displays and demonstrations showing how to more sustainable around the home. Parva will show how to make beeswax wraps and natural skincare products. Gavin will have a beehive and a biopod for soldier fly larvae – a new and super-fast way to make compost.
Cottage in the Graveyard Community Garden will have honey tasting from their beehives, Pocket City Farm will demonstrate worm farms and composting and have a small-space garden display. Green Power and Pingala will show how we use, and can save, energy.
