Festival Season in the Inner West

Spring is the season of Festivals and Fairs in the inner west.

October sees two Feast of Flavours events: Tastes of Asia on Friday 7 October in Ashfield showcases the exotic flavours and cultural richness of Ashfield’s Asian food. While Ashfield is renowned for Shanghai-style Chinese cuisine, food from India, Nepal and Thailand will also be available.

Entertainment includes traditional Chinese dancers and music throughout the evening in the Ashfield Civic Centre forecourt. Kids activities includes free face painting

And at the Summer Hill Neighbourhood Feast on Sunday 9 October, local food identities will host cooking demonstrations – including Oliver Heath from The Garden, R J Lines from One Penny Red, and Chef Murphy from Anidamo Trattoria.A pop-up beer garden will offer craft beer tastings.

At the Kids’ Zone a range of free activities will feature, including a jumping castle, face painting, free pinball machines and a petting zoo.

Marrickville Festival, Sunday 23 October, attracts up to 30,000 people browsing over 120 stalls of local produce, handmade works, gifts, and community groups.

An extensive line-up of performers and activities will feature on three stages – The Main Stage, The Break stage, and the International Dance Floor.

Norton St Italian Festa on Sunday 30 October is possibly the largest street festival in Australia, with up to 100,000 people experiencing what makes Leichhardt so special.]

Now in its 30th year, the Festa has organic markets, entertainment, concerts, dancing and free cooking demonstrations by the best Italian professional chefs for the adults, and carnival rides, jumping castles, animal farms, face painting and puppet shows for the kids.

The 125 stall holders will showcase and sell the latest, the unusual and the best in products, and food, coffee and gelato.

Presented by the Balmain Association, Back to Balmain in Elkington Park on Sunday 30 October features an ‘old style’ family picnic, reunion and entertainment with coffee, ice-creams, cold drinks and a sausage sizzle.

And still in Balmain, Jazz in the Park at Gladstone Park on Sunday 13 November is held every two years and has previously featured jazz icons like James Morrison, Vince Jones and Grace Knight.
