Countdown to Comic Con-versation

Get ready for Comic Con-versation which is heading to the Inner West with an action packed program of events and activities as part of a massive comic celebration from July 4 to 10 July.
This year a record 14 libraries are taking part in the event which celebrates the best of local comic culture with events, exhibitions and talks across Sydney.

Ashfield Library is proud to be hosting the closing event of the festival on Sunday July 10.

“Following the huge success of the first Comic Con-versation put on by Ashfield Library two years ago the event has grown enormously,” the Administrator of Inner West Council, Richard Pearson said.

“This year is set to be bigger and better than ever with a record number of libraries taking part in a celebration of all things comic.

“I’m delighted that the event is so popular with the public and am pleased that once again residents will be able to take part in this major comic event and mingle with our talented local comics community.

“The event runs from July 4-10 and features seven days of free programs with great local artists, to be held at Ashfield, Leichhardt, Marrickville, Canada Bay, North Sydney, Randwick, Ku-ring-gai, Liverpool, Auburn, Sutherland, Manly, Kogarah, Camden and Riverwood libraries.”

At the closing event at Ashfield Library on July 10 people can relax in the Comics Lounge, listen to panel sessions on comics in Australia, listen to live music by pop geek musician Meri Amber and meet talented local comic artists including Bruce Mutard, Queenie Chan, Matt Lin, Thomas Campi, Marcelo Baez and Andrew Tribe.
People are welcome to dress in Cosplay - costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific comic character.

The rapid growth in the number of people cosplaying as a hobby since 1990 has made the phenomenon a significant aspect of popular culture in Japan and some other parts of Asia and the Western world.

Bookings are required for some events. Full program details are available at www.facebook.com/comicconversation2016
