Community to win new reserve thanks to gifted estate “We are delighted that the community will be gaining a new open space reserve thanks to the generosity of the late Betty Bell,” Mr Pearson said. “Following her wishes, Council has accepted the gift of land and in due course will demolish the property, and maintain the land as a public reserve for inner west residents to enjoy for many generations to come. “It is Council’s intention to name the site ‘Bell Reserve’ and to install play equipment on the park land. The Inner West Council will spend approximately $250,000 on the open reserve project, which includes demolition works as well as associated new park and play equipment installation. Council is currently taking action to reclassify the land as community land, after which the land will be rezoned for ongoing use as public recreation. Demolition will commence, subject to planning approvals, by late 2016. Mr Pearson stated that naming of the reserve as ‘Bell Reserve’ will be conditional on the approval of the Geographical Names Board. -Ends-
