Budget Green Light for Section 94 Projects A raft of community infrastructure works funded by developer contributions will go ahead with a focus on upgrades to playgrounds, parks and sporting facilities. Following Council approval for the upgraded scheduled of works this week, Administrator Richard Pearson said the funding would help to upgrade open spaces in the inner west, an issue of high important for local residents. “Investing in improving parks and playgrounds with these section 94 funded works is a priority for the new Council as it was for the former Leichhardt Council,” he said. “This is especially the case given so much significant new housing development across much of the inner west in recent years.” “While this has led to a population increase and a greater demand for local facilities, it has also led to a healthy level of developer contributions. It is important we make sure that those funds are spent wisely on projects that benefit the community.” Some of the projects to be funded have been in the pipeline for more than a decade. Works will include: • Leichhardt Oval northern amenities and scoreboard - $633,700 – with $285,165 being from s94 • Leichhardt Oval Hill area - $611,300 – with $275,085 being from s94 • Leichhardt No 2 amenities upgrade - $300,000 – with $135,000 from s94 • Lambert Park upgrades identified from the approved Plan of Management – $128,600 – entirely funded from s94 • Leichhardt Park native revegetation – $ 100,000 – entirely funded from s94 • Mort Bay Park POM works – $100,000 – entirely funded from s94 • Birchgrove Park accessible ramp – $60,000 – entirely funded from s94 • Balmain High School foreshore link – $60,000 – entirely funded from s94 • Whites Creek BBQ – $30,000 – entirely funded from s94 Section 94 contributions are levies for developers where a proposed development will increase the demand for public amenities and services. The draft Interim Update Plan (2016) with the full list of section 94 projects was on public exhibition from 10 May to 28 June 2016.
