Go Heaps Mad this October for Mental Health Month
Thursday 31 October 2024
Local creatives, get your act together to celebrate Mental Health Month 2024.
Mental Health Month is celebrated each year in October. It’s a useful reminder for all of us to think about our own mental health and that of those around us; and an opportunity to reflect on mental health and wellbeing, the lived experience of mental illness, and the importance of good mental health in everyday lives.
Mental health issues will affect 1 in 5 Australians every year; and will affect most Australians at some point in their lives. Anxiety disorders are often the most common mental health challenge, followed by depression. It is a painfully silent space where people are carrying invisible issues that they don’t always feel they can talk about.
On Thursday 31 October, Inner West Council is partnering with Sydney Local Health District Mental Health Services to raise awareness of Mental Health Month and give our community a voice with an open mic afternoon, Heaps Mad at Marrickville Library and Pavilion from 12 – 5pm. From poetry to opera, interpretive dance to rock - we invite you to take to the stage and show us your creative side!
