Council welcomes Greater Sydney Commission focus on jobs and new industries
The Greater Sydney Commission has recently published the Sydney Region Plan and the Eastern District Plan, which covers the Inner West Council area.
There are a number of planning priorities for which Council has long advocated reflected in the District Plan.
Council is particularly pleased by the Plan’s acknowledgement of the importance of protecting important industrial and employment lands, and nurturing new employment opportunities such the creative and night time economies and the microbrewing sector.
The support for sustainability and renewable energy is also welcome, with strategies to reduce emissions, optimise water use and reduce waste.
Council appreciates the opportunity presented to prepare a local housing strategy and new Local Environmental Plan. This will need to be clearly linked to the provision of appropriate levels of services and local jobs.
Council applauds the recognition of the importance of public transport along Parramatta Road, and the inclusion of the Road as a “city serving transport corridor”.
