Battery recycling

Dispose of your batteries the right way

Batteries don't go in your household bins.

Batteries can start a fire if they are damaged or overheated, endangering waste workers on the job. They also contain valuable resources that can be recovered and toxic elements that need to be disposed of correctly – some of these can poison people, harm animals or contaminate soils and water when they are disposed to landfill.

Many types of batteries are accepted at our community recycling centres and at our e-waste and chemical drop-off events. A full list of which types are accepted or not accepted is provided below.

While you're waiting to dispose of old batteries, keep them temporarily in a box away from heat and out of reach of children.
