Artist statement

In Inside are the Seeds, ceramic interpretations of pyroclasts, known as Pele’s Tears, hang on chains. Behind them is an image created from 3D scans of these same ceramic objects. Pele's Tears are named after the Hawaiian goddess of volcanoes and form when highly viscous magma is ejected into the air before solidifying into tear-like droplets. Within them lie information on the explosive nature of eruptions, as well as the chemical composition of the magma chamber. In the making of this work, I consider how I interpret my own internal processes as a queer person, finding ways to harness and wield them.
