Luke Temby / CUPCO!?

Artist Bio

Luke has been practising and exhibiting in the Inner West and surrounds for more than 20 years. He has exhibited widely internationally in countries such as Japan, USA, Korea, and many more! Luke likes making lots of different kinds of art and trying different techniques - screen printing, sewing, 2D and 3D animation and doll making.

Luke lived in Japan for 6 years and finds it a constant inspiration - his wife and son are Japanese which adds to the inspiration. The anime and manga of Japan, the characters that he encountered there will always be a source of excitement.

Artists statement & inspiration

The message Luke tries to convey in his work is fun and joy! He loves colour and life and he wants to make work that makes people smile. "I love skateboarding and the greatest feeling I get from that sport is freedom and fun! This is the feeling I try to convey in my work".

Luke met Paul (Faux Par, co-exhibitor for PING PONG) quite a few years ago and he recognised someone with a similar approach to art and life. "He told me that one of his first dates was when he came to one of my shows! Our styles really complement each other and we both like weird animated characters and toys".
