Inner West Council endorses the Yes campaign, and is working to support Inner West citizens who are advocating for the Yes vote in upcoming Referendum on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament.

Council is a proud supporter of the Uluru Statement from the Heart, the referendum process, and the proposed amendment to the Constitution.

For close to a century, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have called for a seat at the table. It is time for Indigenous peoples to have say in polices and issues that affect them, and for this basic right to be recognised in our Constitution through a Voice to Parliament.

We believe that when we listen to people about the decisions that affect them, we get better results. Learn more about the Voice proposal.

A Yes vote will recognise 65,000 years of Indigenous culture and connection to this land, establishing a pathway to better outcomes for First Nations people, and a brighter future for all of us.

Inner West has supported the Yes Campaign since inception, and has led the way through activities including a civic education program to build awareness of the Uluru Statement from the Heart and the upcoming Referendum.

This included a series of forums training over 1000 local citizens to assist in civic education about the Referendum within the Inner West and in other communities.

In the lead up to the Referendum, Inner West is offering non-financial support to community groups and Yes activists through our communications channels, the free use of Council facilities and ongoing public advocacy, as well as providing support to local Indigenous people through the duration of the campaign.

We are also working with Inner West for Yes, a community-focused group of residents in the electorate of Grayndler in the Inner West of Sydney, supporting the Yes vote.
