PRUAIP –Johnstons Creek-Booth St & Wigram Rd
The Parramatta Road Urban Amenity Improvement Program (PRUAIP) Objective
The project seeks to improve the environmental qualities of the inner west and see the importance of achieving sustainability outcomes within the projects. The projects shall contribute to overall biodiversity outcomes, reduction of urban heat island, increased urban forest cover, improved air and water quality and other environmental opportunities that the project can provide.
The PRUAIP is a NSW State Government, $198 million initiative under the Parramatta Road Corridor Urban Transformation Program. The Parramatta Road corridor and the UAIP extend from Granville to Camperdown, and include projects in Granville, Auburn, Homebush, Burwood, Kings Bay, Taverners Hill, Leichhardt and Camperdown. The vision for the Corridor, developed by Urban Growth NSW, is for a high-quality multi-use corridor with improved transport choices, better amenity and balanced growth of housing and jobs.
The aim of the PRUAIP is to reverse the urban decay and lack of design cohesion along Parramatta Road. The NSW State Government believes the PRUAIP will deliver tangible public benefits contributing to the delivery of liveable communities and neighbourhoods. The public domain upgrades along the corridor are envisaged to help to rectify the market failure and stimulate new development.
Design & construction of a pathway/cycleway along Johnstons Creek, with public domain improvements to Wigram Rd , Booth St and Badu Park, Annandale.
- Project address: Wigram Rd intersection Booth St, Cycleway from Wigram Rd thru Badu Park to Chester St, Annandale
- Project Description: Design & construction of a pathway/cycleway along Johnstons Creek, with public domain improvement to Wigram Rd, Booth Street & Badu Park, Annandale.
A new shared pedestrian and cycle path is proposed to provide improved connections to Parramatta Road from Wigram Rd/Booth Street thru Badu Park along the western side of Johnstons Creek to Mathieson Street and then on to Parramatta Road. This will significantly improve pedestrian and cycle connectivity to Rozelle Bay and Bicentennial Park from areas South of Parramatta Road in Camperdown and Stanmore. Pedestrian safety is to be improved at the roundabout.
Stage 2 – Pathway, Chester St to Mathieson St (Parramatta Rd) is planned for future years
Badu Park will be given a balanced facelift, with improvements such as elimination of weeds, planting of native shrubs and trees and returfing the area. On completion of the works, there will be a marked improvement to the usability, and Flora & Fauna in Badu Park. To assist in the activation of the area, the park will have lighting, a small timber deck alongside the café. having disabled access from Booth St. This is being provided for community use, especially people with disabilities who will be able to sit out on the deck and admire the park ambience.
The width of the path is designed to be safe for cyclists, wheelchairs, people with disabilities and pedestrians. It will allow full disabled access thru the park & down to the creek. The green space will be increased by eliminating the noxious weeds and trees and planting turf. The site will provide an appropriate ecosystem for the native birds, bush turkeys & possums. A new widened path on Booth St will be constructed to the south, adjacent to a new retaining wall with ramp access into Badu Park. The final design provides a wider footpath with vehicle crash barrier and landscape between the footpath and roundabout.
