Fringe-EDGE Inner West Artist in Isolation Residencies applications now open
Thursday 24 September 2020
Inner West Council is proud to be a Major Partner of the Sydney Fringe Festival (SFF) 2020 program.
This year, SFF has responded to the COVID-19 crisis by focusing its programs on artist support and development.
This includes live performances at 5 Eliza Street Newtown via Made In Sydney program, a series of global partnerships connecting and profiling works by Sydney and International artists through the online initiative Global Fringe, and an artist residency program Art in Isolation, providing much needed funding and support to local independent artists.
In response to the overwhelming need, Inner West Council is extending its important partnership with Sydney Fringe by funding two EDGE Inner West Artist in Isolation residency opportunities.
Artists are invited to apply for a two week paid residency to develop bold new pop-up/roving performances inspired by the places and stories of our Inner West.
This is part of Council’s ongoing commitment to supporting artists through COVID-19, through funding development of new works and future employment opportunities.
Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne said, “More than ever, I am acutely aware of Council’s important role in supporting local creatives, the backbone of our Inner West identity and economy.
“This partnership with Sydney Fringe will lead to new employment opportunities for artists, as well as innovative new works to revitalise our public spaces and precincts.”
The Sydney Fringe CEO and Festival Director Kerri Glasscock said, “Continued support by Inner West Council has directly enabled us to funnel greatly needed funding to independent artists and practitioners during their time of need.
“Sydney Fringe had its birth in the Inner West and we are incredibly grateful to be able to collaborate during this difficult year to ensure that the inner west of Sydney remains the cultural capital of NSW.”
Applications are now open for the residency program and close on Wednesday 28 October.
