Peter Solness: Luminous at Chrissie Cotter Gallery
Monday 31 July 2017
Well-known photographic light painter Peter Solness is the next artist to feature at Inner West Council’s Chrissie Cotter Gallery.
The exhibition, Luminous, showcases Peter’s pioneering and award-winning photography which has been collected by public institutions and applauded by peers and critics alike.
Peter says he has “been following the George Eastman creed for ten years” (‘Light makes photography. Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography…’).
“Torch in hand, wondering around in the dark, eliciting little elements of visual magic from blackness. It’s been quite a journey,” he says.
Luminous draws together highlights of Peter’s works of alluring beauty that combine the sensibility of a painter with the actuality of a photograph.
“I explore subjects that respond well to the application of torchlight. This includes landscapes, portraits, heritage structures and still life arrangements,” he says.
“In each of these themes I explore the traditional approach photography takes and then I reimagine the same subjects and how they may be transformed through the use of selective lighting.”
