10,000 tonnes of Inner West food scraps turned into compost

Since October 2023, Inner West residents have diverted more than 10,000 tonnes of food scraps from landfill. That's enough to fill three Olympic sized swimming pools!

Dan Nicholson, the director of Topsoil Organics in Forbes (pictured right in above photo), issued a personal 'thank you' to the residents for the excellent FOGO material they are receiving.

Dan was impressed by the low contamination rate, saying their team has found far fewer plastic bags, food still in its packaging, tissues and paper towels than they expected. This means Inner West FOGO makes the highest quality compost for farmers to grow more food.

The recovery rate has exceeded Council's expectations, so keep up the incredible work.

If you want to help farmers in the Central West, join us at a FOGO Community Champion Workshop where we'll discuss how to help your friends, family and neighbours recycle their food scraps.
