DRAW Space is a new artist-run-initiative on Enmore Road. The space provides a platform to make, see and experience contemporary drawing. Working within a broad definition of drawing, the space encourages continued research and exploration of what drawing can be.
DRAW Space’s first exhibition features three large-scale graphite drawings by Locust Jones. Inspired by the ever-brewing storm of information in which news and current affairs are produced and consumed, on opening night Jones worked directly in the space, creating a counterpoint to the news stream.
As Jones describes it, this is a turn towards the primacy and intimacy of drawing as a means of clearing the slate, of purging the toxicity of negative news through the delivery of a drawing performance. The performance was accompanied by drumming by musician Tim Bruniges. Read more about DRAW Space and Locust Jones here.
